HomeThe Health and Human Services Coalition

Who We Are:
The Health and Human Services Coalition (HHSC) is made up of HHS providers, advocates and volunteer organizations. It was established by an Ad Hoc Committee of The Women's Council of Dallas County composed of Mavis Knight, Karen Laday, Chris Siegfried, Beverly Tobian, Molly Van Ort, Carol Vesey and Connie Wilson, and works to effectively act and respond to major HHS issues that affect the well-being of the community.

HHSC works to keep citizens abreast of changes in programs, funding, and important issues concerning public welfare. Working with our city leaders and other non-profits, HHSC identifies areas important to our communities such as housing, transportation, dental health for seniors, immunizations, etc. to help people and communities thrive as well as helping to create a caring and more equitable society.

Mission:
To ensure public and private support for health and human services at city, county, and state levels.

What We Do:
Currently, HHSC has been focusing on the City of Dallas' budget which impacts our communities. In 2009, the city's budget deficit was too large to overcome and the entire health and human services budget and department were eliminated. HHSC is now working with the County Commissioner's Court and the Texas Legislature to improve and maintain our health and human services in Texas and especially in Dallas.

Get Involved:
HHSC meets the fourth Thursday of each month at noon at Mental Health America of Greater Dallas.
